Great "cinematic!" (Elite hollywoodspeak for quality "anime." )
Seriously, very well done! Thank you for posting it at the main GuildWars site. And thank you Mr. Weekes for backing up the original expeditious thread creator Shrapnel_Magnet. Sure beats hearing about this from a friend who went to some movie or one of my Korean WarCraft friends (It would appear this will be shown at theatres.)
Sure the trailer is not how the game plays, so what? Our cars don't shine like they do on commercials or last as long as we were told they would. Windows is on it's X^infinity symbol iteration--and we pay for each one that "got rid of over X thousand+ programming bugs" and it still has it "features" pop up in a window here or there, usually from some incompatibility with another microsoft product! However I bet the most accurately represented consumer product is the best example: Auto Insurance. Maybe we should talk about how well they deliver on the policy you are required to have and pay for monthly only to "adjust your claim?"
All I am suggesting is to try pretending you know nothing about GuildWars when you watch the trailer and ask yourself, "if I saw the trailer would I wanna find out?" Think about that friend of your, the WOW user who naysay'd GuildWars. Do you think that trailer would get them to take a second look? See most of us are sold and have been following this for a while, we get intimate and knowledgeable infos from the admins, alpha testers, beta testers and other site contributors. So do you really think Arena.net is making a movie to get us interested? No offence intended, just some info to consider. I mean we got a chance to see the next part of the campaign to bring more people into the game, the success of that is something I would hope as GuildWars players we all want.
Just saying, if the criticism means to be constructive maybe it should be considering who this is addressed to--those who are, or almost are, without any knowledge about Guildwars through-to-those who know about the game but didn't look into or put off GuildWars since they heard about it 6 months ago. Many of which may be questioning their monthy fee for WOW or waiting for some other game that is delayed and forgot about GuildWars.

That makes no sense.
Read this post, but this issue is irking me.
A cinematic trailer is as the name says - its a trailer to the game. When you see a movie trailer, it is trying to entice you to go watch a movie. The same goes for a game cinematic - people enjoy [I do, and I don't have any Korean bloodline] watching the game they play in much more vivid and detailed 3d animation.
This inspid, stupid, and borderline racism has *GOT* to stop. If you have a beef of suppoused preferred treatment between one country or another, take it up with Guild Wars. I WILL NOT stand for these undertones being introduced into the forums. There is NOTHING about that trailer that makes it tailored for a specific market.
Furthermore, take your holier-than-thou persona and take it somewhere else. I would be surprised if even more than 15% of the North American mature gamer audience played paper and pencling gaming or used TI994a. If you wish to gush about nostalgia, got somewhere else. This is a fansite for Guild Wars, and thats it. Enjoying your own ego-centered moral superiority because you used to play games on paper and pencil will NOT be tolerated.

remember this was gotten off of a asian site not a north american site
Gaile said a different one would be available for us next week
hopefully that one will be more realistic as how it relates to gameplay
i am thinking of the person who knows nothing about the game buying it on impulse after seeing that and saying
*not only cant i make a flying leap attack i cant even jump*

Loviatar good point about the flying leap attack. Please consider along this thinking that, so far, that isn't possible. The game isn't realeased yet. Considering too the impulse purchaser, well, he's not so committed to the trailer as he might not have seen it until after (to only whine and gripe about what isn't identical to "game play" sure) yet, he also knows about the expansions, what they can add, etc. like we all do. If nothing else the cinematic represents in animation, and overall aesthetics, game development goals. I said that in sarcasm but there is an element of truth to it.
By the way was the animation done in Korea and maybe that explains why it was there first? I know the market there is a convenient scapegoat, and a likely one, yet release there first might just be the order of production or market timing for the trailer to be most effective.

i have to agree with inde, any form of racism is wrong doesent matter if its in your face or under the table. if you didnt like the movie fine post what you didnt like and be done with it, just try not to spark a topic such as this. this site is for the game no need to bring in outside real world issuse such as racism.

I highly doubt the cinematic was to lure customers. If it was, it's not going to. Look at it logically, it's impossible the way it is, beyond a few people who get schoolgirl about any game with a nice trailer. These days, all trailers are nice, but rarely any have relavence to the game. This one doesn't.

So their alluring to the animation freaks. That makes sense, but it could've been done better, ala Naruto fight lol. Would've been hilarious

Which simply strengthens my post. As I stated crystal clear - moral superiority over any other nation, be it slyly or publically, will result in a goodbye notice.

May I suggest you might wanna not be gender bashing either?
Also, it's funny to me that "...beyond a few people who get [extremely enthusiastic] about any game...." and "...all trailers are nice, but rarely any have relevance to the game" first off admits the absolutely "spend without thinking" market the entire industry is appealing to (and hoping we all become ). And secondly admits the effectiveness of this kind of promotion is considered absolute by the gaming industry as a whole.
Logic is not generally regarded as the most effective method to entice people, unless of course you are selling a TI994a!
Just find it interesting how well we see the obvious and yet argue against it as though it isn't there. Meant in humor only Xellos.

Hmm i guess no one else thinks it is alittle corny.
I watched it again, this time in full screen, no differance.
The characters look cool, i like the hair animation better then The Incredibles.
And the effects were nice.
[Sarcasm]But wow, who would have figured they'd be fightin on a bridge over a moat of lava, not me.[/Sarcasm]
You got the graphics and tech stuff down, now just make it more professional.
This IS intended as constructive criticism.

"Brave" does not imply "so utterly stupid one can't comprehend one's own mortality".
On the other hand, she does appear to be a warrior, and that does sort of imply...

Uh no. If you haven't caught up yet, most companies are doing cookie cutter marketting tactics. Uber-trailers is just one of them. Any company with a brain can figure out that cinematics with no relevance only deter in market sales unless your game is a very general-type game such as super mario. Guild Wars is not.
Want an example? Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. You'll be hard pressed to find hair animation like that, and it sucked.
You think companies that follow this trend do well without making a nice game? Fat chance. About the only company that can pull this off and get away with it is Blizzard. SoE? Ha, their servers are empty. Linage 2? Where's your customers now?
Console games are about the only thing that can pull off meaningless trailers since their aimed at younger audience, that mostly can't figure out quality from quantity.
If they were doing so well, they would be raking in cash, and making better games, not going near bankrupt. Companies that follow this are just finding a cheap way to sell their game, since they obviously can't think of a way to make the game better with the resources at hand. Why do you think more and more things in media sell sex? Sex sells still. It's one of the only things that doesn't need to be relavent to sell.

yes, but a true warrior would have just been glarring the whole time. i mean honestly can you see a male warrior scream like that, no. i think that whether the warrior is male of female souldnt matter both should have the same mind set and both would have been glarring holes through that ugly mugs head.
well hehe i didnt exacly read your entire post sorry

xellos, I apologize for my post. It wasn't intended as recieved. I should hope the topic of the cinematic would reclaim it's space hereafter.
